Proposed New 49th Ward Zoning Map Meetings
This announcement was sent out today from Alderman Moore's Office. These meetings will shape the foundation of the land/building use for many years to come. It will not determine specific uses, (i.e. Blockbuster Video), but will designate the types of uses (i.e. retail store, high volume) that would be permitted without a zoning change.
Alderman Joe Moore announces a series of community meetings to review recommendations to re-map the zoning in the 49th Ward in connection with Chicago’s new zoning ordinance.
This is the beginning of the conclusion of a process started in August of 2003, “I felt it was important for us, as a community, to determine the re-map of our ward rather than having it determined by bureaucrats downtown. As a result, we engaged in an effort to look at the ward comprehensively, which is the only effort I know of being undertaken on a ward wide basis.” said Alderman Moore. “The recommendations are based on input from the re-map volunteers identified around 300 assets and challenges. The Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) worked with our volunteers, and my Zoning and Land Use Advisory Committee. MPC prepared the surveys, trained our volunteers, analyzed the results, identified assets or challenges which can be addressed by making zoning changes, and made recommendations, which have been reviewed by my Zoning and Land Use Advisory Committee, the Chicago Department of Zoning and the Chicago Department of Planning and Development.”
”These suggestions are now ready to be presented to the community at-large for further consideration and evaluation. At the end of the process we will have a community zoning plan written by the residents of the community. There is still much opportunity for community input. Please join us.”
The recommendations, maps of the ward, and basic zoning information are on the web site www.ward49.com. You can also view them at the 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N Greenview, and at the Chicago Public Library, 6907 N Clark.
To allow for more input, we are providing four presentations of the proposed map.
