Dan Rather, Swift Boats, and 527’s

What is George Bush hiding in his military record and how far will he go to keep it from becoming an issue? In the most recent turn of the Bush/Rove/Republican campaign to discredit a decorated war hero, Kerry, and hide the poor record of a war failure, President Bush, documents that turned up seem to be forgeries. It was quickly said that an overzealous Dan Rather accepted the documents at face value because of his not so hidden liberal agenda.

There is now a thought that has been expressed by some, including Tavis Smiley of NPR and an unnamed local politician that suggests the documents were a set up put out by the Bush, Rove, Republican campaign. If one looks at the effect of this, what better strategy could they have hatched? The issue no longer exists because in practical reality any future documents will be suspect and secondly, the issue is now about records being real rather than Bush’s service being real.

As we get closer and closer to Election Day I know that my anxiety level is going to rise and my screaming at the radio and the TV is going to go up. Maybe Jan Schakowsky is right when she tells us not to follow the stories. One thing I am sure is right is that no matter how loud I yell it will not produce the positive result that registering one more voter will. We should keep that in mind and put our energy into the 5 huge days of voter registration that will occur between Oct. 1, moving day in our ward and Oct. 5, the last day to register.

Call the office at (773) 761-4949, email the office, stop by the office and set aside at least a couple of days between now and Oct. 5 to get out and make America a better place.
